As a daughter of two Brazilian immigrants, Lara Werneck was raised amidst a loving immigrant community. As she grew older, the obstacles that her family and other community members faced became evident. Their struggles sprouted within her a passion for helping immigrants and raising cultural awareness. During her years in high school, her passion flourished through Cultures United, a club she co-founded that is dedicated to educating her community on the various cultures that have blossomed in her hometown of Plymouth. Currently a sophomore at Boston University, she is continuing to pursue her dedication towards the immigrant community as an English tutor for the Intergenerational Literacy Program. Her involvement with the Admissions Student Diversity Board of BU has strengthened her understanding of minority communities within her college campus and in the Boston area. Meanwhile, her political science major has successfully mapped her navigation through the rigorous waves of controversial topics regarding immigration. During her time as an intern for the nonprofits Refugees Welcome and Project Citizenship, Lara gained essential skills such as critical thinking and emotional intelligence while working with diverse immigrant communities. Most recently, her internship with the Boston Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement has strengthened her understanding of various fields including communications and local government affairs. Now, she looks forward to applying her knowledge and experiences as an intern for Castel & Hall, LLP! She can’t wait to collaborate with the other students and lawyers on what she loves to do best!
