As of the end of 2020, one of the most discussed aspects of the U.S. immigration regime is a policy known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA. DACA was implemented in 2012 under the Obama administration, and the formal law stemmed from the DREAM Act, which had been proposed then, and on several other occasions, since 2001 but has yet to be passed through both houses of Congress, as of the authorship of this article.
